First snow, first strike! Three strikes and the game is on for the season. Nozawa Onsen Ski Resort is ready to open as soon as there is enough snow... no snowmaking here, always eau natural.

Well the snows are coming, on the mountain this morning and continued down into the village today. It is always breathtaking to see the village turn white for the first time and feel the chill wake our senses.

They say locally three snows and the season is on, so it will not be long...

The colors of autumn foilage are quickly coming down the slopes to Nozawa Onsen Village. FM Nagano radio said the pace was about 50 meters (160 ft) per day, soon the top to be replaced with a silvery shine on glorious, crisp days like today. A wonderful time to get out in the fresh air for some...

This great river the Chikuma, that our mountain streams flow into, is still carrying the remains of flooding the Nagano Valley from Typhoon Hagibis (known as Typhoon #19 here in Japan) down and out to the Japan Sea. We had no damage in the village, but some of the surrounding river valley in Iiy...

The weather has been cold but sunny for the most part of the last week now, making for some nice bluebird ski days up on the mountain, sunglasses in the village. Getting a little whiff of springtime in the air although it looks like we have more snow coming (always some spring snow in Nozawa On...

We stayed here during the Autumn and We can only imagine how nice it is when the big snows come. So close to the lifts you could walk. Was a wonderful location to explore Nozawaonsen.. and it’s many Onsen and restaurants. The place was both modern and classic, had all the modern amenities while a classic charm as well. Highly recommend

About us

Experience Nozawa Onsen Village in a modern, self-contained apartments with a countryside farmhouse style.  Nozawa Onsen Basecamp is an apartment building with mainly 2 bedroom apartments, common area laundry, gear room, and lounge/playroom, and is located in the heart of the village, very conveniently halfway between Oyu Onsen and Nagasaka Gondola in a quiet spot nestled up against the mountain.

For skiers and boarders, only 200 meter walk to the main gondola in one direction and 200 meters to the escalator that goes to the ski school, main Hikage bowl area and the other gondola there.  Restaurants, cafes, bars and nightlife, shopping, onsen hopping and the bustle of the village area all just steps away from the building, and the village itself is a great location to see the region.

Nozawa Onsen is a great `basecamp` for exploring the great outdoor and cultural areas of the Japan Northern Alps, from Nagano on the West to Joetsu / Niigata on the East, Yuzawa and Shiga Kogen on the North to Nojiri Lake on the South.   Inbetween you will find cultural towns of Obuse, Suzaka, Nagano, Tokamachi, castle ruins and temples in Joetsu and Iiyama, and many quaint and hidden villages deep in the snow country such as Nozawa Onsen and Akiyamago.

Famous ski resorts and winter play abound, and the green season provides a much wider range of outdoor activities on the rivers, lakes, mountains and sea.  The mountain spring water is fresh and untainted, the variety of local cuisine gives pleasure at every meal, and the people are sincere, hardworking, and very happy to make your stay an enriching and enjoyable experience.

The apartments are fully furnished and self-contained two bedroom units with fit-out kitchens, appliances and crockery, bathrooms with high-tech Japanese toilet, shower, towels and toiletries, and tatami bedrooms and traditional futon or western beds, non-allergenic bedding and fine linens and warm quilts to finish off the traditional stay in good comfort.  We believe the village environment is refreshing to the soul, and we invite you to awaken to the `slow life` experience of ancient times that is still alive here.
